Affirmations are phrases or statements that we repeat to ourselves in order to change our minds and, hopefully, improve our lives. These affirmations are usually positive (for example, "I am happy and healthy"), but they can also be neutral (e.g., "I am present in the moment.").
When trying this for the first time, go somewhere where you can feel safe and free of distractions. Put yourself in a meditative sitting position and breathe deeply until your mind is clear of worries and fears.
Consider making one or more positive statements about yourself. Here are some examples of positive weight loss affirmations to get you started, or you can create your own.
- I deserve to be fit, healthy, and attractive.
- Losing weight comes naturally to me.
- I'm losing weight every day.
- I enjoy working out every day.
- I eat foods that are good for my health and well-being.
- I see myself at my ideal weight.
- I love healthy food.
- Every day, I lose weight.
- I look and feel fantastic.
- I go to great lengths to stay healthy.
- I've happily redefined success for myself.
- I choose to work out.
- My metabolism is fantastic.

Affirmations may be more effective when combined with other positive thinking and goal-setting techniques. Affirmations, for example, are especially effective when combined with visualization. Instead of simply visualizing the desired change, write your positive affirmations down in memo notes and post them in home or office areas where you can see them more often.
